Composed in the 15th century by the Moroccan scholar of Prophetic
decent, Muhammad Sulaymān al-Jazūlī al-Shādhilī, Dalāʾil al-Khayrāt was
the first major work to compile litanies of peace and blessings for the
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Al-Jazūlī was inspired to pen the book after seeing
a girl miraculously cause a well to overflow enabling him to perform his
ablution. When he questioned how she did this, she revealed that the
secret was a constant invocation of blessings and peace upon the best of
creation, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Among some spiritual orders, its
recitation has endured as a daily practice for over five centuries.
